I was hiking in the Grampions in Feb 2000 when i caught this . It was up on the Major Mitchell Plateau at 1167m . Growing up in NZ i knew them as Whistling or Green Grasshoppers, they sat very still in the grass during the day and whistled unlike their small , silent cousin's that jumped about . This one is a real giant with a body length of 50mm , including ovipositor and legs 60mm long . If anyone can identify definitively please let me know .
