About: Welcome to another Australian Museum Entomology expedition! This expedition is looking at the family Lucanidae or Stag beetles. This family has about 1,200 species of beetles in four subfamilies. Some species grow to over 12 centimetres, but most to about 5 cm. The English name is derived from the large and distinctive mandibles found on the males of most species, which resemble the antlers of stags. This expedition is part of the Australian Museum's Collection Enhancement Project (CEP). The CEP will result in new levels of access to the AM’s diverse collections, making digital images and meta data easily accessible to First Nations communities, scientists, researchers, students and individuals from Australia and abroad. volunteer.ala.org.au/project/index/466655430
