About the Job:
We require an experienced Apiarist Research Technician with a background in genetics or entomology to support our queen breeding and rearing initiatives focused specifically on Apis mellifera. You'll be at the heart of innovative research, improving data collection and productive bee genetics from concept through to implementation.
Selection Criteria:
Beekeeping experience is essential 3 – 5 years
Lead R&D for sustainable and innovative apiculture practices
Enhance field data collection by updating existing Excel spreadsheets and optimizing them for use on mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.).
Data collection, analysis, and hive performance monitoring
Hands-on queen breeding, rearing, and hive management
Genetic tracking and trait selection
Requirements:
Background in agriculture, entomology, or apicultural genetics
Experience with beekeeping and hive management (natural or minimal-intervention approach preferred)
Strong observational skills and scientific curiosity
Ability to work in field conditions with a hands-on attitude—no gloves
No bee allergies
MR or HR License - advantageous
Must have valid Australian work rights at commencemen
Literature Review Support
Summarise recent findings related to queen breeding success, tailored to current setup and goals.
Help identify new strategies or refinements to improve outcomes.Field Assistance
Participate in morning fieldwork to assist with setting up experiments and/or refining data collection processes.
Provide feedback on usability and efficiency of data tools in real-time conditions.
