About the Role:
In conjunction with the Principal and Senior Entomologists, conduct a nationally funded project on fruit fly taxonomy and
diagnostics to improve the productivity and sustainability of plant industries in the Northern Territory.

The Department has been subcontracted to assist the Queensland Department of Primary Industries in a Commonwealth
funded project to:
1. Conduct a review of the current National Diagnostic Protocol for fruit flies (which consists of the Fruit Fly ID Australia

Selection Criteria:
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position.

2. Demonstrated experience with rearing fruit flies, managing fruit fly colonies and the ability to develop and follow strict protocols to ensure that colonies from different sources remain discrete.

3. Demonstrated ability in the diagnosis of insect pests using morphological techniques, particularly with reference to fruit flies.

4. Ability to design, conduct and analyse biological experiments with particular relevance to fruit flies.

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated experience in achieving positive outcomes through stakeholder engagement.

6. Ability to develop and maintain networks with a wide range of stakeholders working in similar fields and across disciplines.

7. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

Desirable:
1. Familiarity with photomicrography techniques and the ability to take high quality images.

Further Information:
Collecting fruit flies for establishing the colonies will involve travel to remote locations and mating experiments will require
maintenance outside of normal business hours. The successful candidate will need to undertake both of these activities.
