The Role:
The Invertebrate Ecologist will assist the Invertebrate Fauna team to sort and organise subterranean invertebrate fauna samples and data for further taxonomic analysis. The majority of our work is for environmental impact assessment and the sorting and identification of a variety of invertebrate fauna groups enables us to provide accurate assessments of subterranean fauna biodiversity.
Support team to sort and organise scientific samples
Ensure accuracy in data collection and recording
Follow processing procedures and look for efficiencies in workflow
Manage specimens within storage areas, ensuring correct storage and handling techniques
Accurately separate specimens from environmental samples within requested timeframes
Ensure samples are processed consistently and systematically
Maintain records and labels, preserving the integrity of specimen data
Develop an understanding of the composition of invertebrate communities
Arrange specimens for further identification under a microscope or by taxonomic experts
About You:
A tertiary qualification in Biology or similar
Previous experience sorting invertebrate samples
Experience in the identification of invertebrate fauna is preferred
Act as an entry-level or technical role that builds skills in taxonomy, microscopy, and ecological methods
Ability to effectively communicate status of workflow
High accuracy in data recording
