Job Role:
Key duties and responsibilities

1. Process and identify ants to species level collected from multiple surveillance techniques.

2. Manage the collection, collation and interpretation of data from control and surveillance activities with a high degree of scientific integrity and accuracy.

3. Prepare reports and technical notes for the NBAEP as well as extension materials for external stakeholders.

4. Build and maintain productive relationships with NBAEP partners, community, industry and other interested stakeholders.

5. Provide advice and support to the Program Manager for surveillance and control activities and carry out analyses to support proof of freedom claims.

6. Contribute to reports and strategic planning for the National Browsing Ant Eradication Program and assist with surveillance activities.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position such as entomology, biology or agriculture/environmental sciences.

2. Demonstrated skills and experience in the taxonomy of ant species or other invertebrate taxa or ability to rapidly acquire.

3. Demonstrated ability to apply abstract scientific information to real world problems, preferably in relation to pest insect biology, behavioural ecology, and management strategies.

4. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated experience in achieving positive outcomes through stakeholder engagement including the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a small team, including the ability to work collaboratively to deliver technical, scientific and communications outcomes.

6. Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety and the ability to comply with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures including those of program stakeholders (mines, ports, industrial sites).

7. Current ā€œCā€ class NT drivers licence.

Desirable:
1. Knowledge or experience in pest epidemiology/management, research and extension.

2. Qualifications in pesticide application and handling (Chemsafe) in accordance with WHS or ability to obtain.
